26 Oct Morning Pages for Business Owners
I have started a new meditation of sorts that I wanted to share. I don’t particularly like seated, battle-the-mind meditation (believe it or not). Rather, I have more success with moving reflections – walking meditation, yoga, and now morning pages.
Morning pages are a practice from Julia Cameron. Her book, The Artist’s Way details this morning ritual where you hand-write (pen to paper is key), 3 single-line pages of conscious stream of thought. Use a legal pad and plan on spending 30-40 mins. I do this (most) mornings before breakfast with a cup of tea. They say morning is the best time to write as “the veil of our ego is at its thinnest.”
Results are obvious. When I write, I am focused. I feel energized, boundless and confident. The pages give me a space to dump all the insecure chatter on repeat from my head. Space to cultivate new ideas and ways of thinking about my business and life. Mostly, I hear my own voice. Other times it’s like the universe is whispering the way to me (or kicking my ass into gear).
I am certainly not looking to add another thing to your to-do list (remember when we talked about boundaries?) but if you’re feeling lost or scattered or simply have stuff you need to figure out, I hope my offering will help.
